Golf Club Distance Calculator
Select your driver swing speed to see estimated carry and total distances for every club in your bag.
Not sure? Most male recreational golfers swing 85-95 mph. Most women golfers swing 60-80 mph.
How to Use This Calculator
Knowing your distances is one of the most important parts of course management. Select your approximate driver swing speed above and the calculator will estimate your carry distance (how far the ball flies) and total distance (carry plus roll) for every club.
Why Club Distances Matter
- Better club selection — Stop guessing and pick the right club for every approach shot
- Avoid hazards — Know exactly which clubs clear water, bunkers, and other trouble
- Identify gaps — Find distance gaps in your bag that need filling with hybrids or wedges
- Lower scores — Tour pros say knowing your numbers is worth 3-5 strokes per round
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is this calculator?
These estimates are based on TrackMan averages from thousands of golfers at each swing speed. Your actual distances may vary by 5-15 yards depending on your ball, launch angle, spin rate, and conditions. For precise numbers, use a launch monitor.
What if I don’t know my swing speed?
Most male golfers age 20-50 swing between 85-100 mph. Seniors and women typically swing 60-80 mph. Competitive players and college golfers are usually 100-115 mph. A launch monitor at any golf store can give you your exact number.
Do golf balls affect distance?
Yes. Low-compression balls (like the Callaway Supersoft) can add 5-10 yards for slower swingers, while high-compression tour balls perform best at faster speeds. See our compression chart for details.
Should I carry a 3-iron or a hybrid?
If your swing speed is under 95 mph, hybrids are almost always better than long irons. They launch higher, carry farther, and are more forgiving. Check our best clubs for beginners guide for setup recommendations.
