Which tees should you actually be playing? Most golfers are playing from the wrong ones.
One of the most common mistakes in golf is playing from the wrong tees. Ego plays a role โ many golfers default to the back tees because that's what they see pros play on TV. But the USGA actually has a recommendation formula based on your driving distance, and the results might surprise you.
The right tees make the course play fair for your skill level. You should be able to reach most par 4s in two shots and most par 5s in three. If you're regularly hitting 3-wood into par 4 greens or can't reach par 5s, you're playing from too far back โ and it's costing you strokes and enjoyment.
Studies show that golfers who play from appropriate tees score 5-10 strokes lower, have more fun, and play faster. There's zero shame in playing forward โ you're playing smarter, not easier.
This recommender uses a simplified version of the USGA's yardage recommendation based on your average driving distance and handicap. Find an instructor who can help you improve your distance if you want to move back a tee box.
